Kawana-Waugh [Ngāruahine] selected for FIFA World Cup 2026

Everyone at Māori Football Aotearoa is pleased and proud to recognise the selection of Campbell Kirk Kawana-Waugh as a referee at the forthcoming FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States of America in June-July.

Kawana-Waugh (Ngāruahine) and compatriot Isaac Trevis have both been selected for the four yearly football World Cup which marks a milestone with 48-teams competing for the first time in history.

After officiating at last year’s FIFA Club World Cup in the USA and the Paris Olympic Games in 2024, Kawana-Waugh will be no stranger to the intensity, pressure and passion of the world’s greatest sporting event.

“Campbell has worked diligently towards this objective and has deservedly taken his place among the very best in the world,” said an MFA spokesperson.

“He has a record second to none and we at Māori Football Aotearoa would like to wish him all the very best for the mission ahead of him.”

The FIFA World Cup kicks off when Mexico take on South Africa at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 11 June 2026.
