Ngāruawāhia, Aotearoa – Auckland FC winger and New Zealand international Logan Rogerson has been nominated for the prestigious Māori Senior Sportsman of the Year Award, to be celebrated at Tūrangawaewae Marae, his home marae as a proud Waikato Tainui.
Club and International Career
Rogerson currently represents Auckland FC in the A‑League, bringing pace and creativity to the attacking line. His career has already taken him across the globe, with stints at Wellington Phoenix, Auckland City FC, and professional clubs in Germany and Finland.
On the international stage, Rogerson has earned caps for the New Zealand national team, scoring goals for the All Whites and representing his country at U‑17, U‑20, and U‑23 levels.
He most recently helped the All Whites qualify for their first FIFA World Cup since 2010.
Cultural Significance
The nomination at Tūrangawaewae Marae, the seat of the Kīngitanga, highlights Rogerson’s deep connection to his whakapapa. As a Tainui, his recognition reflects not only his footballing achievements but also his role as a cultural ambassador for Māori athletes competing internationally.
The Māori Sports Awards celebrate athletes who embody mana, whakapapa, and achievement, with winners across ten categories also in contention for the supreme award — the Albie Pryor Memorial Māori Sports Person of the Year, Rongomaraeroa.

Looking Ahead
For Rogerson, this nomination is a milestone in a career that continues to grow. With Auckland FC competing in the A‑League and New Zealand preparing for future international campaigns including the FIFA World Cup in Canada, United States and Mexico, his influence on and off the pitch is set to expand.
His recognition at Tūrangawaewae affirms that Māori identity and footballing success are inseparable — and that his journey is one carried not just for himself, but for his whānau, hapū, and iwi.
