SEASIDE PARK, — The Pasifika Cup returned in full colour and spirit this weekend, bringing together six proud nations for a celebration of youth football, cultural connection, and community unity.
Among the standout participants was the Māori Football Aotearoa U-15 boys team, coached by the passionate and dedicated Daniel Cassidy.
While results were never the focus, the tournament showcased something far more powerful: participation, pride, and the joy of representing one’s people on the pitch.
The Māori side, led by Dan, embodied this kaupapa with heart, energy, and a deep sense of whanaungatanga.
Hosted by Otahuhu United at the picturesque Seaside Park, the event was more than just football — it was a festival of identity.
Spectators were treated to a full day of festivities, with food and drink stalls offering island flavours, music echoing across the fields, and flags flying high from every corner of the Pacific.

More Than a Game
For Māori Football Aotearoa, the Pasifika Cup was a chance to deepen connections with Pacific brothers and sisters, celebrate rangatahi, and promote pathways for indigenous football development.
Coach Dan Cassidy praised the players for their commitment and spirit, backed as they were by a big turn out from whanau and friends.
The event also served as a platform for community engagement, with families, supporters, and local leaders coming together to support the kaupapa.
From tamariki kicking balls on the sidelines to elders sharing stories under the tents, the day was a living example of kotahitanga.
